Welcome to the 2024 BEVA Congress

Abstract
Welcome to the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) Congress 2024, which is an incredible experience and opportunity to learn from experts in various equine specialties. This is my second time attending, and I cannot wait to get stuck in to all the talks, put some names to faces and maybe have an end-of-day drink or two! This issue of Equine is packed full of articles that are sure to be the perfect complement to this year's BEVA Congress.

As the summer comes to an end, many horses will be coming in from their summer turnout to be stabled for the winter. This change in management, while not uncommon, can cause some issues for horses that are used to being field kept full-time. One of the main problems is the amount of dust that is often found in stables; if a horse has respiratory issues, this can cause clinical signs to flare up. Bettina Dunkel discusses evidence-based treatment of severe equine asthma (p218), which is estimated to affect 20% of adult horses in the northern hemisphere (Simões and Tilley, 2023). Although day-to-day management plays a huge part in managing this condition, medication can also be used to ensure horses with severe asthma can still have a good quality of life.
